Senior Program Manager of Competency-Based Education Damarr Smith of Chicago Public Schools and Senior Fellow Ginger Reynolds of Education Systems Center at NIU co-presented a session at Equity First: the annual conference of the Illinois Education and Career Success Network. In the Integrating Social-Emotional Learning into Academic Performance Tasks: Process and Products from CPS CBE Schools session, participants heard how competency-based education (CBE) high school teachers from Chicago Public Schools developed and implemented academic performance tasks that integrate social-emotional learning, a critical component of the district’s CBE implementation. The session included examples of corresponding student work.
